I think the most important part of this chapter is the Stage of Communication Development Checklist. It's a great way to see where a child is communicating (with and without words) and then see the next steps in the goal chart at the end of page 14.
I also found this video that goes over Chapter 1.

This organizer for a child's preferred activities is also helpful as we go through the program since each homework handout has you pick an activity to use it in.
